yoga from the inside out with siobhan mcauley

part 1: an exploration of moving from our core

when: sunday, march 28th, 2:00 - 5:00 pm
cost: $30 members, $40 non-members
***pre-register for both workshops and SAVE $10

what does it mean to work our core muscles?

how does our practice benefit by moving from our core?

and, more importantly, what is our core intention for practice when we step onto the mat, and how can that intention deepen our commitment to practice?

in this three hour workshop we will look at the practice of yoga from the inside out by focusing on our intention and observing how our intention translates through us into the outer form, expressed as the postures. Then, by using postural assessments to understand how we move through the practice physically, we will explore how that movement is a reflection of our mental and energetic state of being.

by observing the practice from both the inside and out, students will learn how consciousness moves through the body, how the steadiness of the mind impacts the quality of their practice, and how longstanding structural imbalances appear and can be therapeutically corrected through consistent, life long practice.

this workshop is suitable for all levels of practitioners and will give ample insight into the structural alignment of the body. it will also be particularly helpful for those who are looking for something to give depth and meaning to their practice, which ultimately leads to a life long commitment to practice.

siobhan mcauley has taught yoga in both the us and canada for over ten years. her initial training was at the kripalu center in lennox, massachusetts, where she spent two years living as a sabbatical resident. in 2003, siobhan founded green tara yoga, key west's first full service yoga studio. siobhan has had the opprotunity to study with many of today's foremost teachers. among those who have influenced her style of teaching greatly have been angela farmer, sarah powers and aadil palkhivala. currently siobhan teaches and practices both ashtanga and yin yoga at path yoga in kingston, ontario.

part 2: exploring the chakra system

when: sunday, april 25th, 2:00 - 5:00 pm
cost: $30 members, $40 non-members
***pre-register for both workshops and SAVE $10

how can understanding the function of the chakras help with back bends?

how can practice be used to understand the energetic health, or balance/imbalance of the chakras?

what does the expression of the chakras in our yoga practice reveal about us?

in this second part of our series exploring the practice of yoga from the inside out, we will use the practice to illuminate our personal relationship to the chakra system. In this three hour practice, the chakras system will be revealed to us physically, mentally and emotionally, informing our understanding of the challenges and vulnerabilities we experience as practitioners.

students will learn how to use their practice both to determine the quality of energy moving through the body, and to enhance the optimal flow of energy through the chakras when they are encumbered. by learning to view the practice from the inside/energetically to the outside/physically, students will be able to adapt their approach and intention to practice accordingly, to allow for the greatest amount of therapeutic benefit. This workshop will give insight to students that seek to understand why it is that certain poses never seem attainable, no matter how hard they work physically. Open to all levels of practitioners, this workshop will also be helpful for students wishing to develop a more grounded, connected feeling of being in their body.
