may mysore intensive we are pleased to offer a new program at path. if you are
join us to experience the benefits of a consistent daily morning ashtanga practice. in this intensive, a group of students will commit to five morning mysore-style classes per week, beginning sunday may 4th and ending thursday june 1st. this month-long intensive will also include an hour-long philosophy discussion each week. mysore classes
in mysore-style classes, both new and experienced students practice the set sequence of postures according to their own abilities and pace, with one-on-one guidance and adjustments from the teacher. new students will begin with sun salutations and build their practice from there. for all students, new postures are introduced sequentially when they are comfortable with the previous one.
our morning mysore classes run from 7:00 – 9:00 am on monday through thursday, and sunday from 10:00 – noon, and are taught by sarah, carolyn and the newest addition to path’s staff, carlyn brown. participants are welcome to come for any part of each two hour session in order to maintain a comfortable level of exertion through the week.
philosophy discussions
discussions will be held on sunday mornings from 9:00 – 10:00 am. we will explore topics such as ashtanga yoga’s philosophy and history, overcoming obstacles to daily practice, how to maximize the physical therapeutic benefits of your asana practice, and a look at the ways that yoga techniques can help you reshape harmful mental and emotional patterns. optional readings will be provided prior to each session. sample readings include: tkv desikachar, “the careful construction of a yoga practice,” from the heart of yoga
michael stone, “samskara: web of mind and body” from centre of gravity (web journal)
k pattabhi jois, “for the practitioner of yoga” from yoga mala, p36-42
richard rosen, “obstacles and helpers,” from the yoga of breath motivation & fees
we genuinely appreciate that adopting a morning mysore practice is a major lifestyle change. we hope that by working towards that goal as a member of a dedicated community participating in the intensive, this change can occur with ease and enjoyment.
we believe that path’s morning mysore program is a great asset to our schedule, and value this traditional form of practice. we hope that by offering this more structured program we can help students to appreciate it as much as we do, so that we will continue to be able to offer morning classes. to that end, there is no additional fee for members to participate in the may intensive. if you do not already have an unlimited membership, our discounted morning-only membership can be purchased for $109 for one month ($5/class!).
